Commit to your goals and succeed. It is as simple as that. I could end this blog post right here, but I will expand on this thought for universal benefit.
What is commitment? Why do so many people have a difficult time with it? What are the major impediments to fulfilling a commitment? These are all topics that come up regularly in my coaching practice. These are all critical matters for discussion, since commitment to goals is the only thing that separates successful people from those who put in token effort then lose interest in attaining their objective. When the goals are truly yours, the only person who suffers from your failure to commit is you.
I understand that commitment is a tough thing for many people. They start out enthusiastically, but allow voices in their head to get the better of them:
“I am too busy.”
“What’s the point anyway?”
“I will never achieve the goal anyway, so I might as well quit now and save myself further effort or embarrassment.”
Do you know that you have an enemy? That enemy wants you to fail. That enemy has made you fail time and time again. This is precisely why you are where you are right now: stuck. Can you defeat them? Yes, you can. First, you must recognize them. Ok, go to the mirror and look into it. That is the face of your enemy. You are your own worst enemy and those internal dialogs have been, and will continue to be, your downfall until you take charge and change your programming to not accept failure as a possible outcome. I can help.
Goals should always be highly specific and meant to achieve a particular purpose. Goals should be carefully thought out and a plan of action created. Once the plan is finalized, you must follow the path you have laid out towards your objective, making changes to your roadmap as necessary to reach your destination: the fulfillment of your goal. Furthermore, goals should be achievable and should start with easy objectives before progressing to build a proverbial Roman Empire.
I will teach you some things that you never learned in school. I will teach you the real value of goals and the truth that the only thing separating you from the most successful person in the entire world is the ability to set, pursue and achieve goals. If you can master this process, there is literally nothing that you can not do; no one that you can not be; and nothing can stop you. Certainly whatever ailment you are suffering from will not stop you.
I learned long ago the power of goal setting. I have used it to literally craft my life day by day, but also over often long timelines of 2 or more years in advance. I am a very, very, very busy person, so some of my own personal and professional goals are laborious, taking me up to 2 full years to complete. I never quit. I am no better, smarter, or more special than you. I merely set my path and stay on it; not allowing anything to derail me. This is the path to success in whatever you choose to pursue.
Don’t let yourself down. (Again…) This time, learn to do things the right way. Get on board with the winning team and become not only the captain, but the franchise owner, as well. Apply this lesson to all things in your life and you will find problems literally melting away in front of you. You will not need any more excuses and will be able to achieve far more than you can possibly imagine right now. All you need to do is start. Want to learn how?
